Kia ora!

June brought both a challenge and a growing sense of achievement. We have loved seeing everyone throughout the month, and appreciate your commitment to practicing as Winter begins to settle in. Although we are now on break, we encourage you to take this time to reflect on your achievements this year so far and invite you to come back from the school holidays feeling rested and rejuvenated.

Winter Solstice Achievements

To honour the sun on the shortest day of the year, seven brave students and I set out to complete 108 Sun Salutations. It is believed that the body heat generated throughout the practice has a cathartic, cleansing effect, helping you reconnect with yourself on a deeper level. As the rounds continue, emotions naturally rise to the surface, and the body begins to burn. Just when you start questioning your commitment to reaching 108 Sun Salutations, something shifts. Through surrender, mindful dedication, and steady breath, we found the strength to keep moving.

The reward isn't just completing the challenge - it's the sense of lightness, clarity, and accomplishment that follows. I am incredibly proud of everyone who embraced this mountainous challenge, pushed through exhaustion, and achieved this remarkable feat together.

Matariki

This Friday marks the start of the Māori New Year, commonly known as Matariki. Matariki is a time of celebration, remembrance and reflection. As the Matariki period draws near, we take this opportunity to look to the future – creating goals, and hopes for the year, and honouring loved ones who have passed on. To embrace this time of cultural significance, we are centring our Vinyasa classes around the seven stars, each bringing a new reflection and focus to the practice throughout July and August.

July Yin/Yang Workshop

Our July workshop will have a Cozy Yin/Yang theme. The workshop will explore a dynamic combination of Ed and Jill exchanging Yin and Vinyasa practices. Come along to experience the best of both worlds on Saturday, 25th of July. This will be a great way to get your body moving again after the school holiday break – we’d love to see you there!

July Shut Down

We will be taking a 2 week break (4th-19th of July), inline with the school holidays. Traditionally, we take a one-week break during the school holidays, but this year we've decided to extend that to two weeks. Winter is typically our quietest season, and we're also looking forward to spending some quality time with our families and recharging our own batteries.

We understand this may be a little longer than usual and apologise for any inconvenience. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you back to the mat refreshed and ready for the second half of the year. If you would like to continue practicing over the break, we invite you to look into our one year of access to Connect Yoga’s video library. We can’t wait to see you all back on the 22nd of July!
