Spring is in the air

As we eagerly await the arrival of spring, a season of renewal and blossoming energy, let’s take a moment to reflect on the growth and transformation happening both within and around us. Spring offers a beautiful opportunity to deepen our practice, embrace new beginnings, and connect with nature and our Connect Yoga community. Join us as we explore ways to nourish our bodies and minds, welcoming the changing of seasons.

A message from Ed

I find the month of August particularly challenging from the perspective of motivation. It is my hope that you have all managed to find pockets of joy and perhaps even inspiration in your yoga practice this month. For me it has been especially wonderful teaching my Thursday night YIN classes. The students and I have an unspoken agreement that we are both learning during the hour and we always come out on the other side feeling relaxed, peaceful and happy. Thank you all who have joined a YIN class. I look forward to teaching you all for many years to come.

We are a small business and we analyze our numbers to assess the feasibility of classes. Regrettably the Wednesday morning class has not been popular enough to continue. We will no longer be running the Wednesday morning class from September. We are excited and optimistic about all our other offerings and we look forward to making 21 Kawana Street our home. Programme from September:

  • Monday - 6.45pm - 60-minute Vinyasa Flow with Jill.
  • Wednesday - 5.30pm - 60-minute Vinyasa Flow with Ed.
  • Thursday - 5.30pm - 60-minute YIN YOGA with Ed.
  • Friday 8.00am - 60-minute Vinyasa Flow with Jill.
  • Saturday - 8.00am - 60-minute Vinyasa Flow with Jill and/or Ed.

Vibrant Space

Our new studio space lies within a vibrant music and creative space. With this sometimes comes challenges, beyond our control (yes, we are speaking about the drumming). Music lesson times are understandably unchangeable. We have asked the owners to consider swapping these lessons into a space that will cause little to no disruption but we cannot guarantee that this will be adhered to during yoga time. We especially hope to remedy this during Thursday Yin. Sometimes we may just need to practice “tuning out of the world around us and turning inward.”

Theme for September-October

In September our classes will be centered around mental health and wellbeing and the Te Whare Tapa Wha model, in which we look holistically at all areas of our well-being. The Te Whare Tapa Wha Model is made up of the following components; whenua (land), taha whānau (family and community), taha tinana (physical), taha wairua (spiritual) and taha hinengaro (mental & emotional). For more information on the Te Whare Tapa Wha model visit: https://mentalhealth.org.nz/te-whare-tapa-wha

Did you know that September 1st is Random Acts of Kindness Day in New Zealand? Where might you be able to spread a bit of kindness?

September 23-29 is Mental Health Awareness Week in New Zealand. For more information and some handy resources visit: https://mhaw.nz/

Next time you come to class, be sure to grab a September Wellness Challenge sheet. This contains a series of mini challenges to benefit your mental and physical well-being.

Bring along your September Wellbeing-challenge sheet to class on Saturday 28th of September (or drop it to use before then) and we will do a little prize draw after our Saturday morning class. You do not have to have the entire challenge completed to enter the draw. Following this class on the 28th of September we will also have a small coffee/tea and a morning snack gathering. We hope to see you there!

Holiday Closure

We will be taking a short holiday break for one week in October. We will be having a joint class on Saturday the 28th of September and we will be closed for the following week. We will be back on the 7th of October with our regular classes.

Thank you for being a part of our Connect Yoga community! As we move into spring, may you find inspiration and joy in your practice and within our community.

With much gratitude,

Ed & Jill
